My 5 Favorite Things About PA School

I've been in PA school at Elon University for about 9 months now and it has been a blast! We have learned more than I could imagine learning in a lifetime and there's so many things that could be my favorite but I'll try to keep it to my top five :)

1. My classmates
I don't think there is any way to know just how much of an impact these people will have on you when you first start. Each person comes from a different walk of life and I love hearing about each person's story (we have a dancer from NY, a mom of 4 from Hawaii, several EMTs, a few fellow southern belle's ;), and many more)

2. Our Faculty
I am incredibly thankful for our professors. I guess I'll never know how professors are at other programs but ours are extremely personable and I believe they would give an arm and a leg to help us succeed!


3. Casting Workshop!
This day was so much fun! We've done a few other workshops but we haven't started emergency medicine or surgical skills yet so I'm sure there will be more to come :)

4. Seeing SPs (Standardized patients)

Standardized patients are people who memorize a script and act as our patients. We dress up in our white coats and get a chief complaint, or a main problem, and "take a deep breath, knock, and enter" to interview the 'patient' and do a physical exam on them to try and figure out what's going on. We are videotaped and watched by our professors so as you can imagine, it can get a little nerve-racking! These are the SP rooms we do our exams in:

            

5. Intramurals

I enjoy anything I can do with my classmates outside of class but ESPECIALLY if it has to do with sports :) We may not have made it to the championship game in flag football but we had fun trying!
